The replacement root of a dental implant is a high-quality titanium screw, which is bio-compatible, and during the healing phase of treatment, your bone will actually grow in and around the threads of the implant to lock it into place. After the dental implant is placed, you will heal for 4-6 months which allows the bone to completely fuse to the implant in preparation for the forces of chewing.
Once healing is complete, an abutment component is placed on top of the implant which will eventually hold the crown securely in place. A dental implant procedure is a multi-step process with a high rate of success in replacing the function and aesthetics caused by missing teeth.
