What Are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns are a common restorative dental procedure designed to repair a tooth or teeth that have been damaged, cracked or severely decayed. They are natural-looking and made to match the shade of your adjacent teeth. Crowns cover the entire visible surface of a tooth. The dental restoration helps to preserve the function of damaged teeth, repair a cracked tooth, or restore the function of a tooth with excessive decay.

Taking Care of your dental crowns
Our goal is to help your crown last for years and years. With the proper care, it can! Luckily, crowns require the same care as the rest of your natural teeth. Like your other teeth, they may also stain or become discolored over time. Daily oral hygiene practices such as brushing and flossing your teeth, using mouthwash and visiting our office regularly for monitoring appointments and cleanings is the best way to take care of your crown as well as your overall oral health. If your crown ever chips, comes loose or falls off, make an appointment with us as soon as possible.
Practical Solutions for Restoring and Protecting Teeth with Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are versatile restorations that address various dental issues, offering both functional and cosmetic benefits. Designed to encase and protect a tooth, they are a durable solution for restoring strength, improving appearance, and preventing further damage. Whether to repair a fractured tooth, enhance aesthetics, or support other dental treatments, these restorations play a vital role in maintaining oral health. By understanding the many uses of dental crowns, patients can make informed decisions about the best options for their unique dental needs.
THE PROCESS OF APPLYING DENTAL CROWNS
A dental crown usually takes two appointments to complete. The first appointment will consist of preparing the tooth for the crown. Under a local anesthetic, your dentist will remove a small amount of the outer surface of your tooth to make a smooth, uniform base on which to place the crown. Once the tooth is prepared, an impression will be made so that the lab can create a tooth that will fit precisely with the adjacent and interfacing teeth. You will receive a temporary crown when the appointment is complete that will be lightly bonded to your tooth to protect it while the crown is being fabricated.
At the next appointment, your dentist will remove the temporary crown and bond your new crown to the tooth and make small adjustments as needed for a perfect fit. To learn more about restorative dental procedures, call Anthony Martin Dentistry today to schedule your appointment at (757) 886-0300.
